How this index is written

Each hotel is described in prose because that is how buildings are actually understood — a table of amenities tells you almost nothing about whether you would want to be there. The facts used are general and true to the character of the property: where it stands, what it is made of, how it is organised, who tends to stay. Nothing here is a review, a ranking or a recommendation to spend money.

Categories are kept deliberately narrow. A hotel appears under casino hotels because it contains a gaming floor among its facilities, not because that floor defines it; an ice hotel appears because it is rebuilt from snow each season. Where a category is genuinely small, it stays small.
